Racing Dates

Post time is 6PM at Northfield Park for all of their 220+ live days of racing per year. The live action takes place every Monday through Thursday and again on Saturdays for most of the year, though racing also takes place on Sundays in the fall.

Even on off days, the track remains open as a racino and for simulcast racing meaning bettors can place wagers on tracks all around the country. The outcome of Northfield Park’s own races will appear on our results page.

About Northfield Park

Thought of by most as one of the best entertainment venues in the area, Northfield Park sits just 15 miles from downtown Cleveland on Route 8. It’s proximity to other major towns (20 miles from Akron and 120 from Pittsburgh) means it can draw good crowds on live race days, particularly at weekends.

One of the quirky draws of this track is that it has its own microbrewery on site, something which sprung up as part of the site’s $10million revamp back in 1997.

As well as hosting standardbred events on the track, the facility operates as a racino and has many gaming options operating by Hard Rock International on behalf of the owners.

Northfield Park History

Given that the end of prohibition the year before meant a loss in revenue for famed Chicago mobster Al Capone, he needed new projects and one of them was Northfield Park. Built by Scarface himself in 1934, the track was back then known as Sportsman Park and was initially constructed for greyhound racing.

That plan ultimately was unsuccessful and when the ownership changed the facility was used for car racing for the next 20 years or so, though with the popularity of the midget cars waning the site was ultimately demolished in 1956.

A new construction project began thereafter with the track intended for top class harness racing and indeed this has remained the case to this day.

In both 1984 and 1997 the track was given major overhauls at great expense by its owners and these days there is a glass, climate-controlled grandstand and clubhouse which comfortably houses nearly 6,000 race goers.
